The Acasia invasive alien tree species Senegalia mellifera can occur either as a multi-trunked bush up to seven meters high with a funnel-shaped crown, or as a single-trunked tree that can reach a height of up to nine meters. It can form an impenetrable thicket. In some areas of Africa, it is considered an invasive species as it can expand into and cover large areas of farmland.
The supply of wood is sustainable from the farming areas where the wood is harvested and collected. By doing that we help the farmers to increase their feeding areas and receiving an extra income.
We are proud that out of this venture we were able to create more than 100 jobs through this business, which provide for 500+ people. We employ 4 workers for every ton of wood we produce on daily basis.
Black Thorn
Black Thorn is a very hard wood with a dark brown colour which produces not a lot of smoke when burning. The wood is slightly more difficult to ignite than Black Wattle but ensure a long-lasting fire. It is best recommended for heating and a fireplace but can also be used for a barbeque although the coals are not as long lasting as the Black Wattle
Black Wattle
Black Wattle produces a very hard wood. It has a light brown reddish colour and produces significantly less smoke than Black Wood. It ignites easy and makes a very good fire. The wood produces long-lasting coals compared to Black Wood and it is excellent for a barbeque.
Camel Thorn
The smoke from the Camel thorn is sweet although it produces more smoke when burning and ignites not as easily as the black thorn. Characteristics of the Camel Thorn is that the wood is dark red in colour and it is very hard. It ignites more difficult than Black Thorn but makes a good fire that lasts long but is best recommended for fireplace or heating of homes and can also be used for a barbeque. The coals do not stay hot as long compared to the Black Thorn.
African Charcoal manufactures charcoal in three shapes i.e., Lumps, briquettes, and pellets using Black Thorn Wood and Black Wattle Wood. The charcoal is distributed in 10 kg bags for restaurants, Barbeque charcoal in 5 and 10 kg bags, Charcoal Briquettes in 4kg bags and Pellets in 10kg bags.
